Doubt about memory upgrade.

I have a win vps with the folllowing specs

Corel i7 2.67GHz
512ram
win 2008 sr2 64bit

I have not big issues with lag but the server slows down a bit when I rar/unrar while downloading and surfing with several tabs opened.

I want to know if 1GB ram will bring any noticeable improvement.

Im pretty sure Rar/unrar will perform better on 1GB than 512mb, (not a rar/unrar pro)

to test it out

Rar/unrar a file in your PC using 512mb
then 1GB

go into ssh and type in "free" (without quotes) and that will show your memory usage. You should only use a max of 75% of your ram and a moderate level is 50%. If your usage shows more then 75 then yes, an upgrade will increase the speed a lot. If you're around 50 then there might be a slight difference when rar/unrar'ing. If you're any less then 50 there will be no noticeable difference.

Also you can type in "free -s 5" then rar/unrar something to see how much memory is used during that process.
(this command shows the memory every 5 seconds, change the 5 as you see fit)

well try to check the RAM usage (from task manager) while Rar/Unrar process running to know whether you will need to upgrade or no.

At peak use, resource monitor shows only 60mb free memory....

Since you're using 08 server, have atleast 1gb. (imo 03 is less resource intensive)
and yeah def upgrade ram even higher if your raring big files. (>1gb).
