vBulletin has build in features to do this task..

setup a database, and allow it to access from the server which has the php files ( take care of firewall ).
and make sure its in same subnet, or expect a heavy lag..

you can put any number of servers you want..you can even host the same php files on multiple server with same domain ( load balancing ). varnish + nginx .
I have done this thing once..but didn't had much advantage because the servers were in different continents ..

just forget this , if you on shared hosting.
