    setup a database, and allow it to access from the server which has the php files ( take care of firewall ).
    and make sure its in same subnet, or expect a heavy lag..

    you can put any number of servers you want..you can even host the same php files on multiple server with same domain ( load balancing ). varnish + nginx .
    I have done this thing once..but didn't had much advantage because the servers were in different continents ..

    just forget this , if you on shared hosting.

    But I guess u don't need to do this unless ur site is bigger one like wbb.

    You must give access to one server to Remote database you can found it in Cpanel
    this about Remote Database i can't explain you, found it in google about Remote database articles
