KWWHunction.comWebmasters Routine Backups Of Your Website [READ]
Alright so over the past few weeks i have noticed their have been a few complaints of web host shutting down, People not receiving a backup so on and so forth. Now let me just come straight out and say it.
In simple terminology if a web host does not advertise that they take backup then simply make your own routine backups.
Backup Wiki:
Backups have two distinct purposes. The primary purpose is to recover data as a reaction to data loss, be it by data deletion or corrupted data. Data loss is a very common experience of computer users and web host 67% of internet users have suffered serious data loss.[2] The secondary purpose of backups is to recover data from a historical period of time within the constraints of a user-defined data retention policy, typically configured within a backup application for how long copies of data are required. Though backups popularly represent a simple form of disaster recovery, and should be part of a disaster recovery plan, by themselves, backups should not alone be considered disaster recovery
Now with all of that mentioned, I am not saying don't go with a web host that does not offer backup / disaster recovery service.
Their are many hell their are tons of very good web host in the industry that don't bother with a backup service.
Shoot there are many good host here on KWWHunction that are good and don't even offer a backup service
But as i stated above, In reality you are responsible for your own Data a smart person would back up their own data even if they did have a host that took backups just well in common sense you can never be to safe these days.
And if all else fails you can simply find a backup service their are many upon the hosting industrys market today below i have listed a few:
http://www.codero.com/backup-services/
http://www.hostedftp.com
http://www.rsyncit.com/
http://shackservers.com/remote-backups.html
Now take in to mind remote backup services do come at a cost.
I hope everyone that actually runs a web site actually reads this throughDLow Reviewed by DLow on . GraffThe.Net MCSkatty.com MCSkatty.co.uk MCSkatty.net MCSkatty.org MCSkatty.infoNice informative post DLow
Im hosted with WebDen, Have been from the start & i still take weekly backups,
Its a must after previously losing unreplacable data with other hosts.
Backing up even just once a week is 1000x faster then replacing 1000's line of code.

Yep. Been said many times before. Just never at the moment a newbie starts a site.
PS weekly is not enough if you have even a small site with posters. Daily using cron in cpanel is a must and either copy to you computer or use a file host if necessary to save it.

Great read DLow, this is something that every Webmaster should know. You just can't trust your hoster, unless you know that there CAN'T be data loss. You can be sure only if YOU know the techs/CEO from that ISP/DC where the servers are located at. But, when it comes to shared hosting. You really can't rely on your hoster.

Awesome Dlow! This is a great post for site owners. Not only should you take a backup when the hoster says they don't but you should take them anyway. If you really want to keep up with what you're doing on an active site then a daily backup is the best way to go about it. This will insure that you don't lose any of your information. On sites that you know haven't had any new content then you don't have to take a backup. Thanks Dlow great stuff up there
