I'm going to tell you right now, it's not going to be easy. So don't expect any revenue at least 1 year. You need to build up a reputation first, and as Ice T once said: "Juice is more important than cash for real.. Money you spend but true power you feel." (juice means respect/reputation.)
Don't just rent a server from some Datacenter, anyone can do that. Anyone can get 100-150$ monthly for a server. You need to have connections, I assume you're from India. Try to get yourself a friend who works in the ISP, offer him partnership. Tell him to hook you up with some low specs server for a start, so you could get in the game. There aren't many hosting providers, providing hosting directly from the India. So you would have chance in the hosting scene.
When you're looking for a partner, look for one that's close to you. The one you can get if he tries to fuck you over. Not the one from, let's say, United Kingdom. You're from India, he's from the UK. He has nothing to lose if he fucks you over.
Most important thing in the business is to always be professional. You just can't be a businessman if you're immature and dishonest. Real businessman never gets involved, he's there only for the money. Not for the chitty-chat.
Good luck.

Don't rely too much on your "partner". Before you start, get some knowledge about web hosting, Linux distros, server management, etc.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that web hosting is easy and you can earn a lot and keep it running for long. It can be profitable, but for that you have to dedicate yourself for customer service and know the technical stuff. If something goes wrong, the entire reputation is damaged. When you buy a dedi, go only with a provider which is known for good uptime, service, etc. instead of cheaper alternatives that compromise with uptime/hardware.
Edit: @ OP: Jason didn't say that you can't start a web hosting business, he just highlighted that it's not easy. If only you took the pain to read everything that he wrote...
and the words "immature" and "dishonest" weren't for you either.A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. ? George Bernard Shaw

Unfortunately, you misread my post. I never told you are the bad guy, because I don't even know you. But the whole point about this is not to have another wannabe hoster. Let's say, you find a partner here. And he tells you to rent a server from, let's say Ecatel. And 50 other hosters also have their servers there, and other 50 guys have at some other Datacenter from Netherlands. Some other guys have their servers in the same Canada, DC. And what do they offer that their Datacenter can't? Nothing. They're pretty much reselling, and all problems they have, are caused by their unprofessionality.
So if you want to start a web hosting business, start it in your own country. Find yourself a partner, and trust me. You'll feel a lot better when you know your partner in real life, and when you're business is registered. Renting server(s) online, and acting like "web hosting company" is pretty much lame thing to do. So be the one who will make the change. Not the one who will sell his "company" after 4-5 months because of the COMPETITION.
