Google Installation Instructions:
__________________________________________________ _____________________
Hi VB'ers,
please read these instructions to install the Google Tracking code into your site.
What is Google Analytics?
Google Analytics (abbreviated GA) is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. Its main highlight is that a webmaster can optimize AdWords advertisement and marketing campaigns through the use of GA's analysis of where the visitors came from, how long they stayed on the website and their geographical position. {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Analytics}
Why is Analytics Important?
If you (the Board Owner) want to know what is really happening on your site and how best to optimize it to increase visitors and participation and hopefully...... get a conversion.... (make money).... then GA is an important tool for you...
I am an Omniture (Site Catalyst) Manager at my company. I see the money being made with SEO, ROI, and all these 3letter buzz words... If you want your site to make money, you have to begin to understand what drives people to your site... and then maximize the learned lessons..
Lastly... the shit is free.... so get it.....
Step I.
Setup a Google Analytics Account! {http://www.google.com/analytics/indexu.html} easy as pie!!
Step II.
Get your unique tracking code.
{ Legacy Tracking or New Tracking Code? }
I use New Tracking Code versus Legacy Tracking code BUT NOT BOTH!!!
What to do with the Code?
You are going to Copy and paste the code segment into the bottom of your content, immediately before the </body> tag of each page you are planning to track. If you use a common include or template, you can enter it there.
Step III.
In your Admincp/styles&templates/REPLACEMENT VARIABLE MANAGER/ select which of your styles you want to add the tracking code to.
Select ADD NEW REPLACEMENT VARIABLE
in the SEARCH FOR TEXT BOX, enter: (</body>}
in your REPLACEMENT WITH TEXT BOX, enter (YOUR GOOGLE TRACKING CODE) after the tracking code, enter </body>
Click SAVE...
in about 12 - 24 hours, Google will start displaying data from your site.
Good Luck!!
That's it!
If you have any questions please feel free to post them here... I'm sure there are others who are versed in the installation of google and can explain it too...

For those who don't want to edit the actual template, replacement variable manager is great.
Nice tutorial, even though this is something very basic.
