phpBB... And people who say phpBB templates are shit, you are noobs. Who says you have to use premade templates? Create one yourself or port other templates to phpBB.

well, this is my expirience:

smf is really really nice piece of software, and I really love it, and I even think its better and faster then phpbb3
but, phpbb3 is much more used, so it is far easier to find what you need(themes, mods) and if you need help, you will find it much more faster.

You don't get it dude. It's not about templates, it's about script. I can port Katz template aka convert it to work on phpBB for example. So in other words, If you don't know about forums much, html/css etc., go with SMF as you will most probably like other pros say how phpBB is lame (just because you dunno how to convert or create simple theme doesn't mean script is lame).

Google themes and then decide.

No problem, but don't decide that fast. Visit MyBB,SMF and phpBB official websites and check out themes/modules, you have ton themes there. Also you can google for some themes, compare everything and decide which one you like most.

Even better, why not test both SMF and phpBB? Try MyBB aswell, it's nice.
