What do you look for in a Warez site?

Hey Everyone,

Question:
I just wanted to see what people look for in a warez site (other than speed and navigation)?
Any features that you thought were cool/useful/helpful, or some features you would like to see on a Warez site?


Why am I asking?
Well because I'm starting my own Warez site in April (in memory of Katz....because it was my fav site and i don't really use any other sites).

A bit about myself (cuz im new to KWWHunction ):
I only make and run sites that I'll use myself. I think that's the way every webmaster should be thinking. I run a music/mp3 website atm.
I started it because I got fed up with Limewire, bearshare, etc.
I'd choose user-friendlyness over revenue any day because I don't have a strong financial need at the moment, nor am i a big spender. What you'll see from my websites is: non-intrusive trusted-virus-free ads, no popups, just a max of 2 inpage banners, speed, and user-friendly navigation and obviously doing something that competitor sites dont do or doing it better than them.

^(Sorry about sorta spamming myself in the above paragraph, i just can't express what im trying to say without writing an essay post) haha

Not only will this thread and your suggestions be helpful to me, but to other webmasters that own/run a warez site(s).

Well, it's quite simple. Clean nice layout, only needed forum categories and forum descriptions. Site shouldn't be looking for uploaders as this isn't like before, everyone is trying to be an uploader nowadays. And most of them spread their uploads on tons of other forums. That means links would die quickly.

Site shouldn't aim at new downloads, as what should someone think about it if he can't find movies like: Death Wish, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Indiana Jones, Crocodile Dundee, etc.

You know the rest. XXX section should exist, but it shouldn't be showed to users unless they request the permissions to see it.

As for the layout, if you remember katz's layout...i have an older copy of it, i think i'll modify it a bit and write "In Loving Memory of Katz" haha what do you think?

hmm, you made an excellent point in regards to the older downloads.
I'm planning on just having a submit your site form, and then making a scrape script for each site which would see what file hosts are used, how many download links are displayed? (yea i know it'll be a lot of work, messy, and inefficient but i think it's all good once i get a couple hundred thousand of indexed results)

Other than what I suggested above, what other ways could I get results indexed into my database? Manual user submission = the uploader thing you were talking about...which is bad and i probably would get a lot of spam or junk entries.

Are there any good forums or blogs that are reliable and don't hide links to unregistered users/visitors?

I thought you want to make a forum, lol silly me... Best option would be to leave Katz out of it. Sites come and go, there's no need to dedicate a new site to some old site.

Make something unique, or go for some random free template and modify it. A lot of people would say you're a copycat if you release the site with Katz template.

I look for warez in a warez site.. other than that, a clean no ads site is just enough.. also just to add members activity also matters.

I've got a lot of work to do on it, because i like making sites that are easy for me to use and are also visually appealing (which works out pretty good, because everyone seems to also like design,functionality,and simplicity) haha templating/new layout wont be a problem for me, if you want, i can pm you my current site and you can check it out lol

btw, where would I post about my new site? under the DDL section of KWWH?

Well, technically, advertising of sites isn't allowed. But you can create a thread about your site in "Site Reviews" and ask for a review. Also, about the Forum & DDL's section is only for big forums and DDL sites.

Ads are ok as long as they're not popups.

First thing i'm always looking at is the community. If there's no community i'm not interested in staying or even bother to register on that forum.

A community is most impotant in my opinion.

I always thought that people don't like registering or giving out their contact info (aka emails and maybe IP if the forum records the IPs) when they're uploading/downloading pirated stuff?

I'm not thinking of making a forum like Warez-BB, but run a site similar to phaze or katz. how did katz have a community on KWWHunction? would I be able to apply for a section if traffic picks up and it becomes a legit site? until then what do you think i should do have a self-hosted forum? If yes, what forum software do you recommend (i'm interested in security and functionality)
