Making an image transparent

Plz tell me how do I make an image transparent so that it looks good on the site. I am using photoshop cs5 extended and would like to know hw to make an image transparent. When I am reducing the image's opacity to 0%, it becomes invisible. So please help me.

You need to delete the background of that image and not reducing the opacity if as a whole. If you have a background layer and the other layer i.e your image then disable the background layer.

When Creating a New Document .. In the Layout thing - Keep Transparent instead of whit

If you have background layer and the image layer separately, then just turn off the background layer(click on the eye symbol to the left of the background layer to turn it off). The background layer will be the bottom most layer in your layers panel.

Finally, if you want the image to be saved as transparent image, you have to save it as png or a gif image.
