AlibabaHost.comMicrosoft Kinect Hacked to Control Killzone on PS3
The inevitable has happened. In what could be a slap in the face of Sony by the homebrew community, considering its campaign of retribution against all those who fiddle with the PS3 code, the Kinect has been hacked to work with the PS3. This may become even more annoying for Sony because it has been trying to replicate Kinect's success with the homebrew crowd by with its intention to bring the Move controller to the PC. Kinect seems to be quite popular with the Indian homebrew community. Last month, we had a Chennai based mechanical engineer mate the Kinect with Tata Sky and this hack is credited to Shantanu Goel, who's yet another Indian tech enthusiast.

The hack, which Shantanu claims is currently in a pre-alpha level of polish, allows the Kinect camera to translate hand gestures into the RAW input data of the DualShock 3 controller. Gestures like waving, panning, pushing the palm in front of the camera allows navigation, while similar gestures were shown in the video demonstration where Shantanu navigated through Killzone 3. While the camera controls weren't elegant, he says that it's a work under progress and things should get better in the final version. It still looks like a solid proof of concept, considering the fact that it's operation in a mainstream P3 game.anuragblr Reviewed by anuragblr on .
