problem with mysql - out of memory

when i try to backup my databases (mybb forum), this problem appears to me:

mysql error: out of memory

what is the problem?
is there any way to increase the memory that is used by mysql?

Are you also trying to gzip or write one big file dump?

Try using mysqldumper . DO a google should work well.

hello,
when mysql out of memory message appears, i still have free ram when i run "free -m"
so it seems that mysql can't use all the available ram and it seems that it has a limited ram usage.
my question: can i increase the available ram for mysql?

and regarding mysqldumper, ican't use it as it cause freezing of my server when i try to make a backup.

Are you trying to backup the database via command line?

iam backing up my site database via the forum (mybb) control panel.

Any backup should cause freezing because it should lock the record before copying it.

But it should be minimal. I can't remember if there is a choice for table or record lock.

But you really only want record lock unless your site is extremely busy.

Also the backup can be run when the site is the slowest.
