Personally from a webmasters point of view I think it should stay there, from a users point of view I think it should be removed, it's never really bothered me at all tbh though.

I never really notice it, so I don't care. I think it should stop resetting though. Goes from 0 to 100 then back down then back to 103.

it doesn't matter really... it's the same. if you will order your threads by it.

but i think that thanks is better, just because there are too many haters out there... and then if you have 2 posters... and they post the same release, then they would vote hide for the other post, just so that theyr post would rank higher... but they won't vote thanks on another post.
