When you receive a mail like that simply don't reply and do remove (or change) the topic. If you reply they can build a case on that since there in actual contact with the one behind the website. And you are spreading around warez which is illegal in most countries. Make sure you are hosted in a country where it is in the Grey area at least.
Even thought you are online and we are not robbing a bank, killing people ( Well ak47 does) you are still doing something illegal in there eyes, and in the actual law. Don't go around mailing them to suck your dick and swallow the load.
Most likely nothing will happen, but if they do make a case on your website they can bring up all the mails you have sent. Same with posting it in this topic with your website link. They now have proof you actually have read the mail.

profithost.net netbuilders.orgThey are doing this because phone calls cannot be legally proven. They cannot use "taped" phonecalls in any court. This means they would not be able to legally prove that they ever contacted you.
Email is stamped and carries HEADER information. This can be used also by ISP's to trace certain information on a later notice.

profithost.net netbuilders.orgStill I am telling you. Do not risk too many problems with companies like that. If its about your income, I recommend you to remove the files if any. It might deliver a few extra bucks monthly but is that really worth it? Remove the files wich they contact you about, there will still be a 100 million files wich they did not yet complain about.
Legally you are also allowed to host anything until you at least get a notice that its illegal. How could any individual know and decide about what is copyrighted and what isnt? If you want a guaranteed uptime of your site, remove specific files wich they complain about.
The laws in countries like the USA are not the same as the laws in for example Amsterdam.
Copyright theft is also not allowed in the Netherlands, for commercial use. However, any file may be downloaded or used for personal use, or educational use. As well binary services like Usenet seem to be still legal in our country as well.
It all depends on the country you are living in. But then again, if you are looking to start a serious website with a serious income, at least research your rights and your obligations.
Even while anti piracy groups or government agencies are constantly attacking your mind, you will be surprised about the rights you might actually have by law!Profithost is your host.
