So i did a fresh OS install with debian 5 i386, and when i go to install anything i get an error

-bash: dpkg: command not found.

so i tried an apt-get update and get

-bash: apt-get: command not found.

now, i thought apt-get and dpkg were installed by default? i tried to view the repo list @ /etc/apt/sources.list but the directory /etc/apt doesn't exist any ideas?
