    Default Offsite vps backup

I know my host does backups of the servers and all but I still would feel safe if I had control of my own vps backup incase I mucked about and borked something.

I am thinking about getting another vps to use as the storage for the backups but not sure how to do it. I would like to take an image of my current vps and store it on another vps. Do my changes and if I bork it then I can restore from that image. The reason for the vps as I have root and can run these commands

Is there anything like this with a simple learning curve that I can do. I am running a vb forum with file linking.

Again I understand that my host does do backups but am not wanting to ask him to restore it several times in one of my tweaking sessions.

Are you using Cpanel? If so you can do a full Cpanel backup on your site and ftp it to your backup site and use Cpanel to restore it.

If you are not using Cpanel you can use tar & gzip to backup the entire site and ftp it to your new site and untar it there.

Well guess I need to make myself clearer. I do cpanel backups now and move them to my comp but thats not really what I am wanting. I would really like to back up the entire vps os and all then if I were say installing some software and messed up the install I could restore back to where I was.

This is probably not doable at all but just thought I would ask.

it is,this is what i use everyday to backup my sites.I rent a cheap vps just for storing the files and then have it set on cron to upload the daily backups to that vps.It is all handled auto by kloxo but there should be a way for cpanel to do it.

    Hello,
if you have OpenVZ VPS, I think there is a way only VPS node root can do it, vzdump tool, its great tool to backup OpenVZ VPS, as .img file and can restore it later.

you can ask your provider for that.

    Search for r1soft backup technology.

It will do exactly what you want.

I can confirm with what VPS9Ryan said, r1soft backup technology would suit you perfect for what you need.

I have dealt with them before, very professional and a fantastic service.

Ok what exactly am I looking for from them to do what I want. I only have access to my vps and not the whole vps server. Would the hotcopy be the one that I am looking for or what. I am a windows guy and linux is not my forte. I can learn by following instructions and such.

you can write a simple bash script for this purpose,
it will backup databases & files to a zip file then send it to an external backup vps using rsync
