boot sector virus
My PC got infected with sinowal trojan. It is a virus that attaches itself to boot record. My Avira Antivirus can't get rid of it so I think to spare myself time and effort trying to find help online to remove the virus, I'm just gonna resort to formatting my drive with the operating system. My question is, does a hard drive without an OS installed (used only to store stuff) have a boot sector? Sorry for the noobish question. I'm just wondering if I did the reformat on my OS drive and did a clean install of windows, and then reconnect my other hard disks to my mobo, will this sinowal malware emerge and replicate again? Did it already infect my other drives besides my OS hard disk?

full format of all hard disks? i can only format my os hard disk. what i can do is backup my important files from my 320 gb (where OS is installed) to my 1.5TB internal hdd, then full format my 320gb before reinstalling windows on it.. can i just leave my 1.5 tb be or should i format it too? i have 655gb of precious data there and it's hard to back up such amount of data, and besides how will i know if the virus will not transfer itself if i move my files to another HDD?

facebook.comok so u mean ure external hard drive... yes it could be infected. It will be a pain in the ass to back it all up, format your EHD and copy it again, but it is one way to go.
What I would do is format my os like u said, and on the EHD disable the autorun function, and delete any new files u stored that could be related to the virus. Take a look at this and use this tool to help u out. http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ve-449599.html
If after u do all this the virus pops up again, then u know it is coming from ure EHD and u would have to sort it out by backing it up and formatting it...
hope it helpsAll right everyone, line up alphabetically according to your height.

Hmmmm, backing up data from infected HDD? There's a possibility that you will carry infection inside the backup to another HDD. You don't backup when you get infected, you should to do that on CD-DVD-BR-Ext.HDD before infection.
But here, read this:

Use it as a starting point in battle with that nasty rootkit
