I'm just quoting my own response to a similar topic some time back.
Most trackers specialize in certain types of torrents.
* SCC - Looking for scene releases, amazing pre-times and speeds. But one of the last few trackers which still refuses to index P2P releases. So you may need another p2p tracker to supplement this.
* TL - Indexes both scene & p2p releases. Its one of the best all-round general tracker. Great speeds.
* FtN - Overrated imo. But still a good tracker nonetheless. Ratio-free (that's a big plus eh). Good speeds. Oh yea ... its a matter of pride to be in it ()
* Blackcats-Games - The best for games
* HDbits & Awesome-HD - They are famous for their internal encoders.
* Speed.cd - Axxo releases.
* IPT - One of the most common trackers. You dont really need it. Not if you have the ones above.
* Waffles.fm - Better than what.cd for music imo.

I may be biased in what I wrote above, but I cant judge on the rest of the trackers, but these are the only ones I personally use.

Hope that helped
I'm not sure about apps since I'm not a heavy uploader, but there's this thread here - http://www.besthostingforums.com/showthread.php?t=82466
