Way to check the legitimity of a company

Hi guys,

Do you know if there are some website or tools to check a company ?

Because I want to buy something on the net, and i want to check the company first before getting scammed ;-)

I go to this website : http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk//index.shtml

and it looks like the company owns a number like a SIC code or somehting like that.

There are other ways to verify if we can trust that company ?

Just google something like 'amazon.com scam'

already tried that but didn't find anything.

They have a phone number as well. They provide a tracking number for shipping

Look on the company's website for a proper address, telephone number, company number and VAT registration number.

@jtodd : there are all of those things. There is a registered number and it looks like they have a SIC code as well

I think i have the answer.

The phone number is in UK starting with +4470....
They are using a free email address @live.com
and they only use western union and money gram as payment.

So I think it's a big scam and should stay away from that :-)

Do they have a ssl certificate when paying ?
