In vBulletin i think there is a way to prune posts/threads that
have not had anything new posted in them.

Glad they have stopped registering ,
i'm sure there is an option to prune old posts
but unfortunately i don't know a lot about phpBB
so i cant give you the answer mate sorry.

You should not rely on reCaptcha,
i have tested it with reCaptcha and a lot of bots
still get through for some reason but when tried
with KeyCaptcha hardly any get through.
