Minecraft creator gives update on all things Minecraft

The creator of the hit PC game Minecraft, Marcus "Notch" Perrson, went to E3 2011 and has now returned to his development team Mojang in Sweden. In a new blog post he talks about his trip and gives an update on all things Minecraft. As far as E3 2011 he states, "Minecraft fans are amazing. I spent a fair bit of time at E3 signing t-shirts and cardboard heads, trying to speak with as many fans as possible, and every single person was super friendly and nice." We also got to chat with Perrson at E3 for a few minutes and found him to be super friendly and nice in return.

Perrson talks about the fact that Microsoft announced during its E3 2011 that Minecraft was coming to the Xbox 360 at some point. He states, "It will be a new version of the game, designed specifically for console play. We haven?t decided on a name yet. It will feature (but not require) Kinect support, and is being released 'this winter'". He also talked about the Android-Sony Xperia Play version which was revealed before E3. He states, "This version is called 'Minecraft - Pocket Edition'. It?s built as a native Android game, and will take full use of the Xperia PLAY controls." While Perrson will design both the Xbox 360 and Android versions he won't actually be programming them since he still wants to concentrate on the PC platform.

As far as Minecraft 1.7, the next update to the PC version, he states, "The idea with this update is to flesh out the game a bit, making it reward exploration and combat more. Assuming we like them in play testing, pistons are coming in 1.7." He also states that before 1.7 is released, a small number of users will get access to the game's mod tools. he states, "We?ll use those experiences to work out the final details, then we?ll get the modding api out as soon as possible after 1.7 has been released."

Finally the Minecraft Con that was announced a few weeks ago is still happening in Las Vegas but won't be held on November 11 due to Vegas being all booked up on that date (perhaps not surprisingly). Perrson states, "One week later, perhaps? I?ll post more details as soon as we?ve decided and booked a venue."
