New Apple AirPort Extreme version revealed
By John Callaham
Hot on the heels of a new reveal for Apple's Time Capsule product, the Federal Communications Commission has posted up a test report on its web site that reveals Apple also has plans to launch a new version of its Airport Extreme Base Station. The wireless router will have support for both the 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz wireless bands, according to the FCC web site.
This would be the latest version of Apple's wireless router product that first launched back in 1999 with the original Airport. Apple launched the first version of the upgraded AirPort Extreme product in 2003. In 2008, the company released Time Capsule, which is basically an Airport Extreme router with the addition of a internal hard drive. The last versions of both the AirPort Extreme and the Time Capsule were released by Apple back in 2009.
Details about the new version of the AirPort Extreme product, aside from the few revealed in the FCC report, have not yet been announced. Indeed Apple has yet to comment on the FCC listing. However it's clear that if the FCC has a listing for it the product will be officially revealed and launched soon.
As we reported earlier today, Apple has officially announced plans to release new versions of the Time Capsule product soon. The new version will be made available in with 2 TB and 3 TB hard drive sizes and also will include dual-band 802.11n wireless support. It's likely that the new AirPort Extreme will also include dual-band 802.11n wireless hardware.ShareShiz Reviewed by ShareShiz on .
