Say goodbye to Google Labs
Google closes Google Labs.
Google has always allowed their employees to play with their own concepts, ideas and projects during working hours, and many of these experiments has thus been possible to test for everyone.
According to Google itself, this is about focusing more on projects that exist today and streamline development. At the same time they point out that they do not take away the 20 percent of the time for the employees. There will still be room to experiment within the existing platforms.
Nevertheless, many of Google's large services (like Google Maps) started as experimental projects. So it could mean a reduction of really interesting products.
