FTP permissions error

When I try to upload a folder via ftp, I get this error:

Unable to transfer.
This is most likely due to insufficient permissions. Verify both the destination path and permissions, then try again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator or hosting provider.

However, all permissions are at 777 and I've uploaded other things to this folder.

Any suggestions?

Are you able to upload anything at all? Or is this an issue with just one specific file?

Check if your username owns the folder.

If not the folder needs to be chowned.

Not necessarily. If the username did not own the folder, CHMODDING the folders within that folder would also not be possible; the OP indicates otherwise.

I'm uploading the folder to one level up from where I want it to be (just to make sure it can be uploaded) - when its done i'm gonna try to move it

OK, I got it to work

I was trying to move the contents of the 'styles' folder (which is the images for a vb theme) into the 'styles' folder that already exists. So what I did instead was rename the existing folder to 'styles1' and then uploaded the new styles.

Guess I should have thought of that first...but thanks for the suggestions guy
