[New Uploader] Got some questions for the Pros ..
Hi all ... I'm just trying to upload some content which I think hasn't been tapped to much yet but has a lot of potential ..
Anyways, I had some general file host uploading questions:
1) When a site says they'll be $35 for 1000 downloads, are they talking about totalling to 1000 by counting downloads for ALL files, or is the 1000 download thing considered individually for each file you upload .. ?
2) When sites say they'll delete files after 30 days (without stating anything else), does it mean they delete after 30 days of inactivity, or simply just deleting after 30 days of uploading the content ?
3) Some filehosts, such as filesonic and wupload offer 'copy' feature .. So suppose I upload some RARs on Day 1, and then on Day 5 (i.e. 5 days later), I create copies of these files ... So then on Day 30, would only the original set of files get deleted, or both set of files ? ... I'm asking this so that maybe I can avoid having to upload same content again by copying the files a day or two before the 30 day limit is reached ..
4) Similar to the above question, suppose I have two sets of the same files on the same filehost (i.e. only one set was uploaded, and then this set was copied) .. I keep one set as a backup, which I don't share with anyone, and I share the links for the other set on forums, etc .., and suppose this second set is removed due to DMCA, etc ... In such cases would the original set be also deleted by the filehost ? ... If not then I can just simply copy from the original set again to recover from such deletions instantly ..
5) Fileserve has an file storage limit of 500 GB for free users ... Any way to get round this without getting premium ?
Thanks in advance for your help guys ..ahmadka Reviewed by ahmadka on . [New Uploader] Got some questions for the Pros .. Hi all ... 1) ALL
2) After 30 days of inactivity(mostly)
3) If they are using MD5 to identificate files, then both files will be deleted, if not, then only one file will be deleted - what you want is not really practical unless you plan to go trough all your posts in order to change links
4) Same as 3)

How can MD5 be used to identify files .. ? Suppose if I split the files according to my liking and customize the RAR compression according to my parameters, then chances of getting the exact same MD5 as what they may have on file will be virtually zero .. Or am I missing some basic point ?
EDIT: How make link updating process easier, so that I don't have to manually edit my posts on all forums, how about I just post the folder link in forums, and then just shift around the files there ?

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but if you have some file with MD5 on filehost, and then you copy it again, you should have same MD5 for both files. Maybe I'm wrong...

^^ Oh, I see what you mean ... Yes of course in such case it will the same .. :/
I thought you meant to say that they'll be comparing the MD5 to any 'blacklisted' MD5's they may have on file ..

Yes but that would mean repacking the files all over again .. :/
I was trying to find a way to simply 'copy' existing backup to renew the shared set .. I guess this won't be possible as it would mean same MD5s ..
Is there not a way to use the same upload to make a copy, but then make the copied set have different MD5s .. ?

For me the most safest form to backup the files that i?ve uploaded it?s first, have it avaible at different file-hosts and then make a private copy to another (When i say private copy it?s because i don?t share those links)
It involves more bandwidth but assures you to have a "ready to go" backup of all your uploads.

^^ So this would mean that if you need to restore from your backup, you would first download it to a machine, and then transfer it to all other filehosts from where you'll be sharing the links ?
Which filehost do you use for keeping your backups ?
