    Is this allowed legally?
    Does the author allow such thing?
    Any possibility of getting DMCA?

    It freeware 'free'ware ...

    My IT teacher once said that it was allowed.. and he knows a lot about that stuff, trust me.
    He works for companies in his private time to test their security and things..

    Probably legal, but who in his right mind would download some freeware or even Open Source program from a filehost, that has been uploaded by a total stranger, if he can get it for free and with a guarantee that nobody screwed with that file, when he downloads it from the original distributor, or a big and trusted site like cnet.com or tucows.com?

    People downloading freeware and Open Source from obscure places are the same that come crying, because they caught a keylogger and/or a virus.

    Just my 2cents.
