Default Can someone point me to a tutorial to learn how to create this effect?

    Alright lads, here's the image:

Basically, I want to learn how this smokey effect has been created. I'm sure there must be a few tutorials explaining this and it looks relatively easy to do but I just can't get my head around it.

After hours of searching, I guess I've hit a roadblock so any help will be appreciated. Please point me to one of the tutorials showing this effect

All you need is the eliptical marquee tool and the gradient tool. Set the foreground color to white and make sure you change the gradient to white/transparent, then make a oval shape with the marque tool and drag the gradient tool from the bottom of the oval to the middle and you're done.Lower the opacity if you wish but its not necessary.

Make some bubbles and erase them with a soft-brush.

What Flash said, though, it may be easier if you add the gradients in the blending options of each ellipse. This will make it a lot easier to control.

    Dont forget to use layers.

Thanks lads. I've tried gradients but just can't seem to get the necessary effect (trying with a different colour though). The problem isn't the gradient. It doesn't give me the smooth effect at the edge. I'll post some examples after a few tries I guess.

For the sharper border try to add one more color to the gradient, but make its range really short, so there's not too much transition.

    In what?

There's a script available for it in PS CS5.5, FireWorks has it included as a creative tool, Illustrator has an inbuilt end & blend tool that'll do it..........

Assuming that you do mean for an Adobe program, look here.

try to change the layer blending options to "overlay".

Another option is doing this through adding mask and using gradient in the mask
